Elon Musk is a South African-born American entrepreneur, inventor, and CEO. He is the founder, CEO, and lead designer of SpaceX; co-founder, CEO, and product architect of Tesla, Inc.; and co-founder and CEO of Neuralink.
Musk was born on June 28, 1971, in Pretoria, South Africa, and spent his early childhood in South Africa. He showed an early interest in technology and computers, teaching himself how to program by the age of 12.
In 1988, Musk moved to the United States to attend the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned degrees in physics and economics. After graduation, he co-founded Zip2, a web software company that provided online business directories and maps to newspapers. In 1999, he sold Zip2 for almost $300 million.
Musk then founded X.com, an online payment company, which eventually became PayPal. eBay acquired PayPal in 2002 for $1.5 billion.
In 2002, Musk founded SpaceX, with the goal of reducing the cost of space exploration and eventually colonizing Mars. SpaceX has developed reusable rockets and is currently working on a spacecraft to transport humans to Mars.
In 2004, Musk joined Tesla, an electric car company, as chairman of the board. In 2008, he became CEO and product architect of the company. Under his leadership, Tesla has developed several successful electric cars, including the Model S, Model X, and Model 3, and has revolutionized the automotive industry.
Musk is also the co-founder and CEO of Neuralink, a company that develops implantable brain–machine interfaces. The company aims to help humans keep pace with advancements in artificial intelligence.
Musk has gained a reputation for his unconventional management style and ambitious goals. He has faced numerous challenges in his career, including setbacks with SpaceX rocket launches and criticism over Tesla’s production delays.
Despite these challenges, Musk continues to push the boundaries of technology and innovation.
